The Crucible Book Cover

BOOK DESIGN, TYPOGRAPHY | INSTRUCTION: NATHAN YOUNG | ILLUSTRATOR, PHOTOSHOP

The Crucible is a play that was written during a period of time in which McCarthyism ran rampant. This practice of publicly making accusations mirrors itself within both The Crucible’s story of Salem’s witch hunts and the political climate of the 1950’s, during which the play was written; I wanted to create a cover with imagery that reflected this. By boiling this idea down to the simple action of pointing fingers and combining it with midcentury inspired colors and typography, my version of The Crucible’s book cover was born.

the crucible book cover shows multicolored hands with pointing fingers. the left image is a stack of books, and the right is a mockup with the pages facing down so the front and back covers are visible
